Our Journey
This is now. A year that we look forward to.
This is now. A year that we look forward to, as we continue to offer the best bikepacking racks and bags as well as the most stylish city bikes for urban commuters.
Old Man Mountain continues to launch new bikepacking gear.
Old Man Mountain continues to launch new bikepacking gear: Impala Lowrider, Atlas Rack Pack, Hemlock with FLiP Cages and a 5L Dry bag. The Impala Lowrider is a front lowrider rack, with the added top platform for carrying an extra bag.
Old Man Mountain FLiP Cages are versatile, injection-molded nylon cargo cages designed for bikepacking, featuring a proprietary "Fast Lock in Place" (FLiP) system for quick-detach, secure, and rattle-free mounting of compatible bags. They mount to 3-pack fork mounts or racks, weigh 94g-139g, and include a removable foot for traditional strap-on gear usage.
Avantum discovers the new Shorts, a short video format on Youtube, as a fun way to upload short product videos about bikepacking racks and bags.
The revolutionary Axle Pack is born.
For the fourth year in a row, Old Man Mountain is launching a new product. This year, the revolutionary Axle Pack is born. The Axle Pack is unlike any cargo mount seen before. It provides a four-pack of mounts and can be attached to almost any fork with a thru-axle, including suspension forks. Rated to carry 5kgs on each side it is a stronger alternative to using eyelets on the fork, and can be used on bikes that have no eyelets for a standard bottle holder, for example.
With the shutdown of labiciplegable.com, labicielectrica.com and alforjas.net, finally, product info and online shops are centered around 5 domains vs the +35 domains used a decade ago.
Several new mounting instruction videos for various Old Man Mountain racks are uploaded to Youtube, to replace now quite old instructions for legacy modelos like the legendary Sherpa rack.
New bikepacking racks and bags at Festibike.
Again this year, Avantum is displaying new bikepacking racks and bags at the Festibike bikeshow. Newly launched Old Man Mountain Pizza Rack, and the first bags from the Old Man Mountain brand, Ponderosa Pannier and Juniper Trunk Bag.
These items are displayed on a Casadei gravel bike, and on borrowed BH bikes from Biciretiro bike shop in Madrid.
Unification and elimination of domains is almost completed, with bikepacking shop oldmanmountain.com.es moving all the content to the avantum.info domain. This domain was originally used as the main company domain between 2003 and 2014, before the move to avantum.bike domain.
Widefoot cargo cages and the Elkhorn rack.
More bikepacking gear comes to Spain this year through the Widefoot cargo cages and bottleholders.
Old Man Mountain adds a new rack to their lineup, the Elkhorn. Available in two versions, Elkhorn Short for 700c wheels and Elkhorn Tall for 29" wheels. Designed for short and medium distance bikepacking trips, allows for bottleholder or cargo mounts on the side and a rack bag on top.
After many years, avantum decides to participate with a stand at the Festibike bikeshow. The fair is also coming back after 2 years due to covid restrictions. On this return to the show, avantum is focusing 100% on bikepacking gear diplaying all the Old Man Mountain racks, a few Carradice bags as well as the Widefoot cargo cages. In order to display the racks properly, Evil Bikes kindly lets us have some bikes for the stand: Offering, Following and a stunning Chamois Hagar gravel bike. Here equipped with two Elkhorn racks and the Widefoot Classic CargoMount
Avantum.bike redesign and new Divide racks.
Avantum.bike gets a more modern design. A total redesign, more up to date. Old Man Mountain rack sales continue to grow, and should soon be back at normal levels. And for the first time in many years new racks are launched, the Divide and the Divide Fat (for fat bikes). Building on the legendary Sherpa rack, but with new and improved details, such as a lower pannier rail and height adjustable dropouts.
Many European bike factories do not have a lot of stock to sell, but Avantum identifies a new Italian brand, Trubbiani. Again classic Dutch style bikes with an Italian touch are added, including retro-style Graziella folding bike.
The year of the pandemic and record sales.
The year of the pandemic. Complicated at first with quarantines and restrictions in public spaces. But during the summer all of Europe wants a bike. Maybe to avoid public transportation and the risk of contagion the virus, maybe due to a desire to spend more time outside. The industry sees new record sales.
Also good news, Old Man Mountain gets a new owner, and the supply difficulties from last year disappear over night. Sales more than doubles compared to last year. Specially racks being shipped to other EU countries such as Germany, France, Benelux countries, Sweden and Finland.
Streamlining the domain portfolio.
The domain portfolio has grown over the years to include +35 domains. In 2019 is the time to streamline and simplify workload. Therefore, brand name domains, such as pilen.com.es, beixo.com.es (and severla more) and promotional domains like exclusivamentetuya.com.es are all deleted. Time to focus on 1 main domain and 3 web shop domains.
A complicated year to get supplies from top selling brand Old Man Mountain, which leads to lower leverl of sales of these racks.
Continuing improvements to web sites.
This year carries on more or less like 2017. No new brands or products and work continues to improve and develop current web sites.
Focus on modern design and mobile adaptability.
A quite year for the introduction of new brands and products. Time is spent on updating web sites to more modern design and improving adaptability to small screens such as mobile phones.

Introduction of AMiiVA and social media expansion.
The bike sector starts to suffer from overpopulation, with too many new bike shops opening for a market that is more or less stagnant at just below 1 million units sold per year. The bike sector has survived the financial crisis of 2008 well (but is still going on) , but so many new bike stores can not share the same cake, so closing of bike shops is evident
.
This year, Avantum introduces AMiiVA. The brand was founded around 2009-2011 in France by Philippe Poupard. Unlike other manufacturers that use standard components, the Amiiva City was designed from scratch using CAD technology and 3D modeling, resulting in a frame with flowing lines that doesn't resemble a typical folding bike. The bike had an optimized central folding: The frame folded at a strategic point that allows both wheels to be parallel and aligned.
AMiiVA was unforunately short lived and closed the factory a couple of years later.
Adriatica bicycle sales start to take off this year. Avantum continues to sponsor Sergio & Amelia with gear, this time with Old Man Mountain racks. For the second time Avantum sponsors Tweed Ride Madrid with products for the prize ceremony, including a classic bike from Adriatica.
